Website Design. What Does it Take?

Website design can be an overwhelming task for small business owners. Providing the right direction and a set of tasks can be completed by the business owner or me. In many cases it’s a combination of both of us. What I do is make it easy for business owners to launch a website quickly and with minimal amount of business owner or employee time.

Typically when I’m contacted by a website design customer they only have a domain name and in many cases they don’t even have a web domain. Most of my web design customers are small business people looking for an online brochure and my job is to make this happen as painlessly as possible.

Here are the items that I provide for my website design customers:

• Identify the needs of the website? What’s it’s purpose? A prioritized list will be made.
• Create a website plan, edit and agree.
• Agree to the plan and exact price.
• Identify the domain name? In many cases I find a list of domains for my customer to choose from.
• Where will the domain be hosted? I host many of the websites I design or I will recommend a host for the customer depending on their exact needs.
• Add the domain to a hosting server package.
• Point the domain to the host server.
• Add WordPress to the domain on the server side.
• Log into WordPress and begin the design phase.

• Gather text and imagery. In many cases I provide much of this.
• Build a home page for customer approval.
• Build support pages for approval.
• Apply Yoast SEO basics.
• Apply Jetpack basic.
• Add keywords.
• Create email accounts.
