Ham Lake Web Design creating websites for small businesses in 2011. I thought I’d give folks a brief background on my website development. It all started with a website called fishfever.com. This website offered fishing videos on the Internet starting in 2001. To give you a reference point YouTube started in 2005. At the time videos needed to be downloaded. The process was tedious. Video was analog and I had to convert it to a digital format. I made available files that were known as mpg’s or wmv’s on my website and the size was small 320×280. I had to do that so the downloads wouldn’t take forever, most had slow connections…128k. I had many fishing videos on the site and some were downloaded thousands of times. The site also featured written materials and feedback.

The fishfever.com website at the time was cutting edge and it lead to starting a company to create a product we called Digital Video Brochures. Basically a website on a CD. DVB’s as they were known had embedded videos allowing marketing and sales departments to offer more information available to customers on a CD. These DVB’s were basically websites on CD’s. Within a couple of years people started asking about making these into websites. Especially fishing and outdoors related companies. And so it started.

The original fishfever.com has gone thru many transformations over the years. The biggest one being…it was difficult to maintain it’s content consistently. You see I had a company and employees so getting new fishing videos was now a task to be dealt with amongst all the other responsibilities. And of course in today’s world there are multitudes of places to watch fishing videos. But as far as I know fishfever.com was among the first websites to offer videos.

I’m still creative with digital skills and I’ve learned quite a bit over the years.
